On mission in Honduras each January, Manos de Dios ("Hands of God") serves the area around Danli, El Paraiso, Honduras through a wide variety of projects. Basing its operations out of La Iglesia Episcopal Manos de Dios, a congregation originally started by the Manos team, this mission team engages in evangelism, discipleship training, construction, gardening, soccer clinics, eyeglass fitting and distribution, shoe clinics, and education.
The ongoing central ministry of Manos de Dios is the funding and administration of a scholarship fund for qualifying children in Danli. Children in Honduras require substantial financial assistance to attend school beyond 6th grade. The $250.00 yearly scholarship provided by Manos de Dios pays the largest portion of these expenses, covering enrollment fees, tuition, uniforms, supplies, and part of the transportation costs. Students applying for the scholarship undergo and interview process and must demonstrate a committment to their education through academic achievement. On occasion, a college scholarship has also been made available to graduates of the scholarship program who are particularly committed and desire to further their education.
In 2011, 42 students were enrolled in the scholarship program for secondary education, and another 9 students were receiving the scholarship to attend university. In 2011, the total, annual amount administred through the scholar program of Manos de Dios was $24,500. For 2012, it is estimate that number will grow to $28,500.
If you would like to make a donation to the Manos de Dios scholarship fund, please make your check payable to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, and put "Honduras Scholarship Fund" in the memo line. Please mail your check to the church address found on at the top of our website.
